Given the increasing globalisation of educational marketing, it is of great importance in the field of e-learning to understand the market potential and funding strategies of other countries, and to be able to benefit from their experience in the use of e-learning, skills development and the realisation of innovation potential. The countries highlighted in this report – Finland, the United Kingdom (or England), Switzerland, the USA and Australia – all rank higher than Germany in the so-called eLearning Readiness Ranking (eLRR). Against this backdrop, the countries selected for this report are analysed in terms of their key e-learning activities – particularly in the fields of higher education and continuing professional development. However, the analysis also takes into account the international focus of e-learning activities. Here, the comparison of countries shows overall that other countries appear to be continually drawing inspiration from around the world and are themselves targeting foreign markets, whilst Germany is only gradually making efforts to engage with the international education market, currently through initiatives that are still rather isolated.
