Review of gaming policies and industries
On 24 October 2024, the Committee on Cultural Affairs decided that its working group on follow-up and evaluation will conduct a main study in the form of a review focusing on digital and board games. The emphasis will be on the digital games industry, though board games will also be covered. The aim is to provide a solid knowledge base to inform future decisions within the committee’s area of responsibility concerning the digital and board games sectors. The study will comprise three main components: * A mapping of the structure and functioning of the digital and board games industries, including an overview of existing conditions—such as regulations, strategies and public support mechanisms—and how these compare with other cultural and creative sectors, particularly the music and film industries. * An international outlook examining gaming policies in selected countries, including how these countries regulate and support the digital and board games industries. * Case studies of Swedish regions where the digital and board games sectors are experiencing positive development. The study will be based on a combination of methods, including document and literature reviews, interviews with researchers, industry representatives and key stakeholders, as well as statistical analysis.
