Developments in the field of neurotechnology are progressing rapidly. The first prototypes allowing ALS patients to control digital devices with their thoughts are currently being tested. Moreover, in the domain of consumer applications, major technology companies are investing in such Brain-Computer Interfaces. In this Rathenau Scan, we explore the opportunities and risks from a public values perspective and provide policy options for politicians and policymakers to deal with them.
