Due to the costs and repercussions, obesity and diabetes are considered two of the most serious public health problems in Mexico. Diabetes is the main cause of death in productive age. It is estimated that the cost of both diseases is between 82 and 98 billion pesos per year, which is equivalent to between 73 and 87% of programmable spending on health in 2012.
