Anticipated growth of the global economy, especially the development of Asian countries, indicates that the demand for electricity will be increasing. In the foreseeable future hard coal will remain a substantial source of energy. However, coal as an energy source has one disadvantage. The burning of coal leads to increased emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide, which is a serious problem in the era of global warming. This highlights the importance of developing coal technologies which do not cause damage to the environment.
