Horizon scanning - detecting scientific and technical trends and socio-economic developments in early development stages
Horizon scanning is used to observe scientific and technical trends and socio-economic developments in early development stages and to place them in the context of social debates. In this way, innovation signals should be recorded as early as possible and their technological, economic, ecological, social and political change potential should be described. The aim of horizon scanning and the resulting "Themenkurzprofile" (short topic profiles) is to contribute to the research and innovation policy orientation and opinion formation of the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment. In practical implementation, horizon scanning is carried out as a combination of software-based search and analysis steps and an expert-based validation and evaluation process.
