Public organizations in domains such as education, healthcare and government are predominantly digitizing using the services of big tech. As a result, these organizations are becoming increasingly dependent on big tech companies to carry out their public tasks and responsibilities. This dependence is problematic because it is slowly reducing the control of public organizations over their core processes. In other words, they are losing their autonomy. This makes our society vulnerable.
How can we reduce digital dependence on big tech companies and increase the digital autonomy of society? This part of the triptych From Digital Dependence to Digital Autonomy is devoted to action options for governments and organizations in public domains to achieve more digital autonomy.
