Algorithmic management is mostly known from the platform economy, where workers are often directed by algorithms that rely on large data sets. However, traditional companies and organisations are increasingly adopting elements of algorithmic management to automate managerial tasks. This report, developed in collaboration with TNO, is an initial exploration of algorithmic management practices outside the platform economy. It also illustrates how organisations in three different sectors are already working with these systems in varying ways. Since the use of algorithmic management can have significant implications for the way people work in the Netherlands, it is crucial that employers and employees start engaging in dialogue about it now.
