Challenges of the Polish hard coal mining sector in the context of European Union climate policy
BAS (2024) INFOS 8(321), Challenges of the Polish hard coal mining sector in the context of European Union climate policy
The Polish hard coal mining sector is currently facing profound challenges stemming from a sustained loss of competitiveness and the imminent expiration of mechanisms permitting the provision of state aid. Concurrently, the sector’s transformation must be significantly accelerated in order to align with the European Union’s climate policy objectives, notably the achievement of full decarbonization and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Within this framework, the efficient and timely deployment of resources made available through European Union funds becomes a strategic imperative. Equally essential is the revision and adaptation of national government strategies to reflect the evolving economic, environmental, and technological realities.
