Artificial intelligence, scarce resources and climate change
This short note deals with the climate and environmental aspects of generative artificial intelligence, and what scope for action Norway has to use generative AI for the good of society in the "greenest" possible way.
Generative AI will seize large amounts of electricity and other resources such as water, minerals and land in the coming years. The technology can become greener with energy efficiency, circular solutions and renewable power, and will also offer important climate solutions. Norway can set requirements for data centres, obtain knowledge about climate and environmental costs, use public purchasing power and support new AI solutions for climate.
