Residual Waters Treatment
Ceja de la Cruz, Z. & Rentería Rodríguez, M. E. (2019). INCyTU Note 28 Residual Waters Treatment
The lack of residual water treatment has important environmental, economic and social implications, such as the destruction of aquifers or the generation of sources of odors and transmission of diseases. On the other hand, nearly 24% of Mexico's municipalities are in a condition of high climatic vulnerability, which represents a threat to the quantity and quality of the water of daily consumption. Currently, drainage coverage in the country is 73%, with 2,477 treatment plants. Only 57% of the municipal water collected in the drainage system is treated, and more than half of the municipal treatment plants are rated from bad to lousy. Despite the national targets set by the government to increase the percentage of wastewater treated, the targets have not been met and therefore neither have the benefits.
