Analgesic opioids are prescribed for pain relief and other symptoms such as breathing difficulties. In Mexico it is necessary to expand access and supply for those patients who require them, but in turn, poor regulation of their use can lead to a public health crisis. Currently, there are international, Latin American and national guidelines to promote the proper use of opioids.
