Precision crop farming
Santillan Godínez, O. (2018). INCyTU Note 15 Precision crop farming
In conventional farming the same amount of water and fertilizers are applied on the entire surface of the cultivated soil, while in precision agriculture (AP in Spanish) the variability over time of compounds in soil and plants grown is taken into account by using satellite technologies, monitoring and automated machinery. This could allow a reduction of up to 90% in the use of agricultural inputs that are released to the environment. In Mexico, the use of PA could bring economic benefits (for farmers, industry and government), social and environmental benefits (reduces the risk of contamination by agrochemicals).
