Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (CoE) RESOLUTION 1528 (2006) - Student disaffection for scientific studies (November 2006; Rapporteur: Mr Lengagne, Doc. 10949)
The number of students in the science disciplines is declining significantly everywhere in Europe. The Parliamentary Assembly is concerned about the consequences of such a decline for the economy of the countries concerned as well as for the critical minds of their citizens and for the protection of human rights. Measures to reverse the tendency should be taken urgently by the governments of Council of Europe member states, in particular on the level of teaching and this as of primary school. An upgrading of scientific careers and a particular effort to encourage girls could be included in such measures.
